Cancellation of Diamond Jubilee Championship 2020

Hi everyone,

It is with great sadness that we find it necessary to cancel the 2o20 CIDA Diamond Jubilee Dancesport/Pro-Am Championship which was to be conducted Sunday 4th October in the Crown Promenade Hotel.

With government restrictions in multiple areas, as well as the lack of time for teachers and competitors to prepare after returning to their dance schools, this makes it almost impossible to conduct a major dance event the way we always have.

We hope to see you soon at any of our events that we are able to hold.

We’ll announce any events as soon as possible

As soon as things get better and we are more normal in our activities, we will look to announce the date of a CIDA event! So do keep in touch with us in various ways:

Should you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Stay safe, take care and be kind!

Best regards,

Don McRobert and the CIDA Team

Cancellation of Crown 2020

It is with great and sincere reluctance that we are placed in the unenviable position where we must now cancel the 2020 Crown International Dance Championship.

With the Commonwealth government directive on Friday, 13 March, for gatherings of 500 people to be cancelled, and the uncertainty with theVictorian state government’s, all due to the Covid 19 virus, this has left us no option but to cancel the event. The government announcement has also resulted in multiple cancellations of entries from schools and competitors over the past week.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this will cause, especially for all of you who have booked your flights and accommodation. We’ve put our hearts into planning this event as we do every year, and we thank sincerely everyone for their continued support. We look forward to seeing you and welcoming you at Crown 2021.

The 2020 Diamond Jubilee Dancesport/Pro-Am competition will run as scheduled on 4th October. The Diamond Jubilee Theatrical competition will also run as scheduled but this year to be extended to a full day event with a program including solos, duos, etc.

Should you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Don signs CIDA & YDC Agreement

Don McRobert, president of the Crown International Dance Association (CIDA) recently visited China. While he was there, he signed an agreement on behalf of CIDA with Yuang Dong China (YDC).

Don and Mr Zhang signing the agreement.

YDC is an association in China with very large numbers of dancers of all styles.

The agreement features the formation of a close strategic partnership that involves reciprocal agreements, equal co-operation and assistance and resource sharing. It also recognises competition participation, sharing of adjudicators, examination qualifications of both parties and training facilities for students and teachers.

We look forward to a great relationship and partnership with YDC.

New WDC Competitors Commission to be wholly funded by WDC

Press Release – Foundation of the All – New World Dance Council Competitors Commission to be wholly funded by WDC!

Dear valued members,
Dear Competitors,

As you might be aware, also in part from the WDC Press Release in February 2018, the WDC Board of Directors has dissolved the WDC Competitors Commission in its former format, due to various ongoing issues at that time.

The WDC Board of Directors feels, that the WDC Competitors and WDC AL Competitors cannot be left any longer without proper representation and are therefore excited and delighted in announcing the launch of the NEW WDC Competitors Commission with immediate effect.

Whilst undertaking this hugely important task, the Board of Directors decided to start with a blank sheet of paper and design and structure an entirely new “fit for purpose” system to benefit the 2018-2025 developments in the dance world. As many of you may know, the original Competitors Commission was developed for a system which was extant in the 1980’s!

This all-new Commission will therefore include Competitor representatives from all WDC competitive styles of current interests and activity, such as Ballroom, Latin – American, Smooth, Rhythm, and WDC AL Amateurs as well as Pro-Am representatives, and will for the very first time, be wholly funded by the World Dance Council from the Licensing monies received.

It seems only right!

The WDC is excited to announce that the Commission will be funded by the WDC with 2 British Pounds out of every Competitors Registration received, in order to have a budget for their good work. Also they will be represented on the Competitive Dance Executive Board with 2 appointed representatives, holding one vote on the CDEB.

The WDC is therefore thrilled and delighted to also announce that the Top Professional Competitors appointed to head the NEW WDC Competitors Commission are Riccardo Cocchi (Professional Latin), Victor Fung (Professional Ballroom), Klemen Prasnikar (Amateur Latin), amongst many other top competitors, that have joined the Executive Committee of the new Commission.

Future appointments for all other styles will be advised very soon.

Two of the immediate tasks upon which the new body will deliberate will be plans for a WDC Competitors Commission and WDC World Dance Awards Dinner and Dance held in the Spanish Halls in Blackpool on Thursday, 23rd May 2019. More details on this exciting evening will be published in due course.

The first however… the bone of contention.. WADA and drug-testing requirements and the way ahead.

We truly look forward to updating you on their progress as we embark on this new and exciting era which is truly reflective of Competitors’ concerns in the new arena of diverse dance activities and fit for the pathways ahead.

The WDC Board of Directors

We have just a couple of updates for you so please do take note:

  1. Send your entries as soon as possible
    • Your entry helps us to create a running order in an easier manner and enables us to give it to you faster
  2. If you are keen on front row seats, please book soon as they do run out
  3. Some further clarification regarding recreational events in regard to partnering recreational dancers
    • After a discussion with DSA regarding current rules, and as a result of questions raised by some studios in regard to partnering, it was agreed that as Crown information was distributed prior to the new rules, we should still allow partners of recreational competitors dancing in recreational “individual” events to be partnered  by any registered amateur competitor, providing they have never coached or taught the person concerned.

    • If there is any difficulty entering through p 5000 then do so by sending an email entry to crowndanceevents@live.com.au
  4. Parking at Crown
    • Locals need to check out car parking now  as there are some that you can book in advance. Some are quite economical, others can be a bit expensive. Here are some options for you:

If there is anything else we can do to help make your Crown experience easier, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
