The Crown International Dance Festival
FATD Victoria
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Doors open at 8.00am so as to start the programme promptly at 8.30am sharp.
The Festival
The Crown International Dance Festival (CIDF) is organised by Don McRobert, Lorraine Perkins and the team at Wendon Dance Academy, under the auspices of the Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing (Aust.) Limited.
The vision of the CIDF (formerly the FATD Victorian Championship), which was started in the 1970s, is to promote and highlight dance as a great sport of diversity that is good for both the body and mind of all ages, and also, to allow competitors and spectators alike to enjoy the values of friendship, participation and achievement.
The CIDF is the largest one-day international dance festival held in Australia at present; with a separate presentation room doing progressive prize presentations and two separate ballrooms running continuously throughout the day, culminating in the glamorous finals of the evening program.
The festival is held in the Palladium at the Crown Casino in Southbank, Melbourne - a location that is considered the finest and most prestigious in the Southern Hemisphere.
With events for practically every style and every age group: from under 8 years to seniors, from the Dancesport styles of Standard, Latin and New Vogue to the street dance styles of Hip Hop, Break and Latino, and the theatrical dance styles of Jazz, Tap and Modern Expressive/Classical Ballet, the CIDF provides opportunities for all age groups and nationalities to showcase their dancing talents, and enables audiences to witness dancing at its best.
In addition, the International Dance Organization (IDO Australia) holds a World Championship Australian Selections for Hip-Hop and Jazz at the CIDF. The 2008 winner of the Australian Selection managed to get into the Top 12 in the Electric Boogie of the IDO World Hip Hop Championships in Germany.
Because of the diversity of dance events at the festival, the CIDF not only attracts competitors, spectators and officials from Victoria, but also from interstate, New Zealand and countries in South East Asia: Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, China and Taiwan.
Over the last few years, the festival has attracted more than 1,000 competitors in both the Dancesport and Theatrical sections.
The CIDF is an established and well-recognised event that is registered with Dancesport Australia, the Australian Dancing Board and the IDO Australia to cover the interests of local and overseas adjudicators and competitors.
